Canadian Cardiology Expertise. Anticoagulant-Safe Patient Education.

Dr. Aun-Yeong Chong is a Canadian interventional cardiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. His clinical work includes percutaneous coronary intervention, chronic total occlusion PCI, intravascular imaging, coronary physiology, coronary microvascular assessment, and transradial cardiac procedures.

Dr. Chong studied medicine at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, completed postgraduate training in the United Kingdom, and earned MRCP(UK) through the Royal College of Physicians in 2001. He later conducted research at the Haemostasis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Unit at City Hospital, Birmingham, and earned his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Birmingham in 2006 with work focused on endothelial function in congestive heart failure.

His cardiology training was completed in the West Midlands, United Kingdom, followed by an interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute from 2008 to 2009. Before joining the Heart Institute as staff cardiologist in 2013, he served as a consultant interventional cardiologist in the United Kingdom.

As a cardiology medical reviewer for SunnyPharma®, Dr. Chong provides independent clinical review for cardiovascular and anticoagulant education, including content related to rivaroxaban, Xarelto generic access, direct oral anticoagulants, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, thrombosis, and medication safety. His role is to assess whether patient-facing material is accurate, balanced, appropriately caveated, and useful for people comparing treatment access and cost options.

Cardiovascular medication education should be clinically accurate, appropriately cautious, and clear enough for patients making real access decisions. I bring that standard to every review I conduct.

Review Standards & Editorial Transparency

All SunnyPharma® content reviewed by Dr. Chong is evaluated for clinical accuracy, patient safety framing, appropriate anticoagulant cautions, and clear distinction between drug information, access information, and medical advice. For rivaroxaban and Xarelto generic content, review priorities include indication-appropriate language, bleeding-risk cautions, renal-function caveats, drug-interaction context, adherence warnings, and the need for patients to consult their licensed clinician before starting, stopping, or switching therapy.

A public 2024 Canadian Cardiovascular Congress presenter profile for Dr. Chong listed: No financial relationships to disclose. SunnyPharma® should still obtain a signed conflict-of-interest attestation before assigning any reviewer role and should update this page if a relevant relationship with Bayer, Janssen, a rivaroxaban manufacturer, anticoagulant manufacturer, pharmacy, insurer, or access intermediary is later disclosed.
