Unfortunately, all hepatitis C virus or HCV treatments are very expensive and not affordable even if you have very good insurance. If you don’t have good coverage, most patients usually purchase Harvoni from India because its affordable.

However, Medicare will usually cover Harvoni. Check with your doctor to find out if you are eligible for being treated with Harvoni.

To be covered by health insurance companies for Harvoni, you must show that you have not consumed drugs or alcohol prior to treatment. Many insurance companies will cover Harvoni if you have been very impacted by hepatitis C. If your liver is doing alright with hepatitis C, insurance companies will often ask you to wait and try more affordable treatments like ribavirin and pegylated interferon.

Some insurance companies will not pay for Harvoni because of the cost.  If that is something you have experienced, please consult Support Path, a patient assistance program from Gilead Sciences, the manufacturer of Harvoni. Not everyone is eligible, but you can always try to see if you can be accepted in to the program.

  • Like most patient assistance programs provided by manufacturers of expensive drugs, this is only for residents of United States.
  • 24/7 nurse will be available to answeer questions regarding Harvoni, Epclusa, Mavyret or Sovaldi.
  • Private insurance with copay assistance with copay coupons may be of help for out of pocket expenses associated with Harvoni cost.
  • Patients that are part of US government health care programs in Medicare and Medicaid will not be eligible for copay coupons and copay assistance.
  • Harvoni cost will be no charge for some uninsured patients.

If Harvoni is not available to you through Support Path, you can contact American Liver Foundation, NeedyMeds or Hepatitis Foundation International.

Blog sites report this:

“I paid a total of $150 for three bottles of Harvoni. First, my insurance they would not cover it but they eventually said they would. I did have to wait a little bit over a year but it’s worth not having to pay out of pocket $30,000 to $98,000. My wife was not so lucky. We went through a doctor at University of Arizona, who got the Harvoni cost down to less than $800 from India. She did not want to wait and also, she was not feeling as good as I was. So, it was worth it for us to go through two different routes and it worked out. All the best!”

“Dr. Angelino helped me get Harvoni from Support Path. They got one bottle of Harvoni but I still needed two more bottles. He referred me to get it from Sunny Pharma and I paid less $260 a bottle. It was worth it and they were fast too.”

“Talk to your state law makers and ask them to help you. I know its a long shot, but it may work. Never give up. If I were to do it all over again, I would have gotten it from India, because the headaches and all the running around you have to do.”
